Pull your opponent toward you, so that you are touching their side with your back. The closeness will not be a problem with the control you will have.
If you can, pivot their hand directly above their shoulder. Make sure their hand is not above your sternum. Some people will go down when you do this. In any case, by keeping their wrist directly above their shoulder and locked at a 90 degree angle, they will not be able to escape regardless of strength or size difference.

If a knife hand to the throat bothers you, a palm strike to the sternum will also work to drop your opponent. You definitely want to follow up or apply a lock to prevent them from getting up.
The step here is crucial. You almost want to be to close. If you are to far away, then your leg sweep will not have any power. Your left foot should be very close to, if not directly next to their right foot.
If the opponent's stance is switched (left lead), this technique will not work.

For additional torque to bring them down, step with your right foot toward nine o'clock. This will extend your opponent out, making it harder to resist.

Don't discount the importance of this technique. Since the fighting stance is at an angle, by stepping into that angle, you are stepping out of the way of the punch.
Practice just stepping out of the way of the punch without the block.

Fairly straight forward technique.
The trickiest part if the knee strike, as the opponent's arm may be in the way. If you find the arm in the way of your knee strike, turn the knee strike into a front kick to your opponent's knee.
Always be careful to maintain your balance with a good strong stance. You don't want your opponent falling into you and knocking you over.
1. Start from ready stance 2. Step in with the right and perform a left inside/ right outside block deflecting the arm to your right side . 3. Deliver a right palm strike to the face. 4. Grab the shoulder with your left hand and back of head with your right and pull the attacker's down into a right knee strike. 5. Continue to hold him down with the left as you execute a right downward elbow strike to the back of the neck. 6. Step back into a fighting stance.

Lots of variations on this one. If grabbing the throat is a problem, grab the arm with the left and the shoulder with the right to pull them back into the knee.
You can also use the knee to the back of the thigh or buttocks to put them down on the ground.
As always, stepping depends on distance and reach. Taller defenders may find they need to step back with the left, rather than forward with the right.
1. Start from a ready stance 2. Step in with the right as you perform an inside(right)/outside(left) block, deflecting their arm to your left. 3. Grab their throat with both hands. 4. Strike their kidneys with a right knee strike. 5. Step back into a fighting stance.
